With a new EP released last week, bilingual singer songwriter Nina Cobham brings soothing vocals to the light bossa nova beats and laid back R&B grooves on her tracks. The London based artist has kept acoustic intimacy at the heart of her sound, but has beautifully expanded her voice as well as her production skills with her 2023 project “Middle of Nowhere.”
Having spent the first few years of her life in Spain, Nina weaves simple and poetic Spanish phrases into her songs. Her powerful vocals are often distorted and stretched throughout the EP which counterbalance the melancholic substance of her lyrics. Each track touches on different forms of love, whether it be for friends, others, or oneself and Nina’s voice feels like a blanket reassuring that everything will be okay. With the whole project having an airiness and gentleness to it, “Middle of Nowhere” invites listeners to tap in and drift away.
