About

Seldom does an artist’s presence on a record command one’s attention the way Kara Jackson’s does. The 23 year-old Chicago native effortlessly lulls the listener in with melancholic acoustic guitar strums and profound lyrics that are achingly beautiful. This should come as no surprise as the songstress was named Youth Poet Laureate of the U.S. in 2019.

The singer-songwriter’s raw approach to folk music allows her to seamlessly sew her poetry into song. Working with the talented Sen Morimoto, Nnamdï, and Kaina – also from Chicago – Kara released her first LP this month titled “Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love?” A vessel for the grief experienced through the pandemic and the loss of a dear friend, the project is a layered, sonic landscape rich with storytelling and illustrations. Kara’s delivery is harsh, yet gentle; her vocals feel pained, yet comforting.

With her album released, Kara is starting to tour her work across the country, and will soon be playing to venues in the UK and Europe. Kara Jackson has seen support on playlists like Fresh Folk, Indie Frequency & more. Learn more about the poet below.

Upcoming Shows

Kara recently wrapped a few shows in April – including her album release performance – and will be touring in Europe later this September
