About

Amidst attending music business classes at NYU, the versatile indie artist Hannah Jadagu is gearing up for the release of her debut album “Aperture.” Hailing from the suburbs of Mesquite outside of Dallas, Hannah grew up listening to R&B and hip-hop, and was introduced to mainstream pop music by her older sister. Soon, she entered the world of Tumblr cult bands like Vampire Weekend and HAIM and Internet indie acts like Clairo and Steve Lacy.

The artist actually took direct inspiration from Lacy – who famously recorded and produced his earlier tracks on his iPhone – by recording her debut project “What Is Going On?” entirely on her iPhone 7. The success of her release led to her signing with the label Sub Pop and a subsequent year of touring with artists like Faye Webster, Frankie Cosmos, and Wet.

Writing most of “Aperture” while on the road, Hannah explains the “music reflects how much push and pull we have at this age.” The same can be said about the genres her upcoming album takes from. There’s R&B, indie pop, hip-hop, and even subtle leans into psychedelic rock. Following her performance at SXSW, her most recent single “Warning Sign” holds true to her influences as it started from a melody her older sister sang on the original demo. Her debut album is expected May 19th.

Hannah has received editorial support from NME and Atwood and has seen support on playlists like New Music Friday, Lorem, Modern Psychedelia & more. Learn more about Texas-born, New York-based artist below.
