About

8485 lives in a different world. Created by Helix Tears – digital and IRL collaborator Blackwinterwells’ label – 8485 (AKA Eighty) is an artificial intelligence that was installed in a young woman. The lore goes that this young woman cut her teeth in the Canadian punk scene and began developing her own voice, crediting pop artists like Grimes and MARINA as inspiration. Working with other experimental acts like aldrch, fish narc, underscores, and the aforementioned “Wells,” the singer has uniquely established herself in the pop space.

Yesterday, the underground pop artist revealed her project “Personal Protocol” will be available June 23rd. This notice arrives shortly after the release of her melancholic DnB track Atlantis (2º), self-referenced as “the second degree of Personal Protocol’s gradual implementation.” The track describes a relationship tearing at the seams as Eighty discovers her partner has been deceitful. “I think writing music has always been a pathway for me to understand and map out a lot of experiences that otherwise don't seem to make any sense.” The glitchy musician certainly has a talent of blending fiction with reality, and yet has a tight grasp on her own identity and where the story is going next.

“I’m nostalgic for everything that’s ever happened to me. Whether it’s the singer or the software talking, I believe them.” - 8485
